Anybody know of a way to add a tachometer to a BX23? It just doesn't feel comfortable running an engine with a manual speed control without knowing the rpms. How do I know if I set the throttle the whole way to fast that I am not over the rated rpms? Or if I try to be conservative, that I am not lugging it by being under the max torque rpms?

Looks like the model at the bottom of the web link page is for diesels. I didn't click on the more info or ordering links to see if the site provides contact info. There probably are alternatives.
Sounds like this models works off pulses in an injector line. I've heard this type unit works fine. I think you have to know the exact OD size of the injector lines to order one though. ....

It seems like measuring injector pulses requires a pretty complicated apparatus. A simpler design might be to attach a magnet/sensor to the engine pulley. It would work like a bicycle speedometer except it would not have to be scaled to wheel diameter as needed for miles per hour.
I tried to see if my bike speedometer might be scaled to give some reading relative to RPM but I haven't ridden it in so long the batteries have all died. :-( ....

I think they use a transducer of a type that senses pressure and produces electric output. They are pretty simple and inexpensive although the technology that produces them isn't. I seem to recall prices around $150 for this type unit.
Most of the pictures of industrial ones I've seen look like a capsule with input and output fittings that is hooked into a line. The type used in the tach is designed to be fitted around an injector line. ....

I am in the process of doing just that,i have a tach pick-up sensor that is used in diesel pick up trucks,normally used to add a remote car starter to these vehicles,it produces a tach pulse signal,should work ,i use them at work on remote starters on diesel trucks. this sensor goes on the outside of the alternater,a added kubotas 40a unit,it wont work with the factory dynamo that comes on the tractor. ....

I put one of those Tiny Tachs on my BX1800 about a year ago and it works just fine.They have a transducer you clamp on one of the injector lines.Very simple to put on.Theres lots of fellows that have put them on by reading on other sites. ....
